James Turnbull was born in September 1813 at St Marylebone, London, and attested at Soho Square, London, for unlimited service in the Honourable East India Company’s Artillery. He served in the Sutlej Campaign but the medal rolls show entitlement to the medal with Sobraon reverse only. He died at Mian Mir, in the Punjab, on 11 May 1856.
