Charles Somner Sedley Taylor was born at St Mary’s, Guildford, on 13 January 1836. He was admitted to Addiscombe in August 1852 and appointed 2nd Lieutenant, Bengal Artillery, in June 1854. He served with 3/3 Bengal Horse Artillery during the Indian Mutiny, with Brigadier Troup’s column in Oudh 1858-59; present at the affairs of Mahoodipore 17 October, Ruttoolpore 26 October, Mittowlie 8 November, Mehudie 19 November, and Biswah on 1 December 1858 (Medal without clasp). He transferred to the Royal Artillery in 1861 and served with the 22nd Brigade in Bhootan (Medal with clasp). He was appointed Major in August 1872 and died at Mussoorie on 5 September 1877.
