Richard Tucker Roberts was born on 20 September 1857, and entered R.M.A. Woolwich as a Gentleman Cadet in September 1875. He served in Afghanistan with 1/8 R.A. from May 1880 until the conclusion of the campaign; in Egypt with 7 Mountain Battery, 1st Brigade, Northern Division, including actions at Kassassin and Tel-El-Kebir; in Burma from November 1885 with 3 Mountain Battery, 1st Brigade, Southern Irish Division, R.G.A. He died at Thayetmyo on 8 January 1886, while serving in the Burma campaign.
