George F. Parry was born in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, on 6 January 1832, and joined the navy as an Ordinary Seaman aboard H.M.S. FISGARD on 15 December 1854. He changed branch becoming a Stoker upon joining MERLIN in March 1855. A year later in May 1856 he was placed on the books of H.M.S. BLENHEIM to serve as a stoker aboard her tender the Steam Yacht OSBORNE, from which he was sent to prison on 21 January 1857 for a misdemeanour, returning to her on 10 February before joining SHANNON on 13 March 1857. The Muster List reported him “Discharged Dead on 5 November 1857 Naval Brigade”, just a few days after the action at Khujwa.
