Edwin Moore was born at Portsmouth on 10 January 1856. He joined the service as a Domestic 3rd Class aboard H.M.S. HECTOR on 6 March 1874 but was invalided from her in January 1875. Re-entered the navy aboard H.M.S. EUPHRATES as an Assistant Baker on 23 July 1877, was advanced to Baker in September 1879 and paid off in June 1881. In March 1882 he was drafted to H.M.S. HUMBER to serve in the rate of Baker and participate in the Egypt and Soudan operations during 1882- 1884 earning the campaign medal and subsequent clasp for Suakin 1884. He was transferred to H.M.S. HIMALAYA on 9 April 1884 but died aboard her four days later from phthisis (medical term for wasting and gradual loss of body tissue and bulk) his widow receiving his medallic award.
