Born in Brightside, Sheffield, on 11 October 1863, Denton attested and joined at Walmer on 11 September 1882 as a Private R.M.L.I. He became a Gunner in the R.M.A. on 24 August 1883, and a member of the R.M. Battalion, Egypt, from 7 June 1884 until 7 July 1885. He later served aboard H.M.S. SATELLITE (1886-87) and ORONTES (1888), being invalided from the Corps on 11 April 1888 but died on 18 May 1888.
