Born in Kings Norbry, Birmingham, on 23 December 1846, Alfred Emery enlisted at Walmer on 23 December 1870 as a Private in 32 Company, Portsmouth Division. He served aboard the following H.M. Ships ENDYMION (1872-74), ST VINCENT (1877-79), whilst on books of ALEXANDRA served with the ‘Egypt Battalion’ 20 August until 23 October 1882, FLORA (1883-85), STARLING (30 September 1886 until 8 April 1889). Discharged with pension on 9 March 1892. Had been in cells, imprisoned and lost Good Conduct Badges on four separate occasions, hence no L.S. & G.C. award.
