Peter Barron was born at Merchant's Quay, Cork on 28 March 1835. He first entered the service as an Ordinary Seaman aboard H.M.S. HOGUE on 8 July 1856 with advancement to Able Seaman in June 1857. His talents allowed him to be rated 'Painter' - a 2nd Class Petty Officer - when joining his next vessel the LIFFEY on 1 May 1860. He retained this duty and rate until pensioned from H.M.S. REVENGE on 6 July 1876, having received his Long Service and Good Conduct medal on 19 May 1875.

George Lee joined the Revenue Cruizer Service on 2 September 1841 in the rate of 'Ordinary Mariner' aboard the Cruizer VULCAN - the first steam vessel introduced into that service in 1835 - remaining aboard her until she was paid off from active duty in 1849, during which time he received advancement to 'Mariner' on 9 June 1845. After his time in the Revenue Cruizer Service he opted to transfer to the Coast Guard, where after being selected he was entered in the rate of ‘Boatman’ on 11 October 1849. Later he was drafted to H.M.S. ROYAL ALBERT on 23 March 1854, as an Able Seaman, earning the Crimea medal with Sebastopol clasp and the Turkish Crimea medal. He remained in the Coast Guard as a humble Boatman for another nineteen years, earning his Long Service and Good Conduct medal a month before he was retired on 30 April 1875.
