B.E.M. London Gazette 29 June 1943 (No Citation). An Admiralty letter dated 13 July 1943 states: “For leadership, bravery and skill in diving operations of a hazardous nature.”

At the time of the award he was serving on H.M.S. PROMETHEUS Depot Ship for local defence vessels in the Mediterranean. The B.E.M. was presented by King George VI at Buckingham Palace 2 November1943. A copy of the above Admiralty letter is sold with the lot, together with a news cutting and another copy letter from Area Naval Auxiliary Officer, Flag Officer, Scotland and Northern Ireland, dated 8 October 1984, regarding his retirement after 32 years service and confirming both his R.N.A.X. Long Service Medal and Clasp.
