Thomas Parslow was born in St Giles, Oxford, on 27 July 1844. He enlisted in the Corps after being a butcher, as a Private in No 82 Company, Portsmouth, on 27 July 1865. He served in the Royal Marine Battalion in Ireland during period March to June 1867, and served at sea aboard ABOUKIR (November 1867 to June 1868), and PHOEBE (June 1868 to November 1870). Promoted to rank of Corporal on 22 April 1871, and to Sergeant on 23 May 1873 whilst ashore at Portsmouth. He subsequently served aboard LORD WARDEN (December 1876 to May 1877), ALEXANDRA (20 January 1883 to 7 February 1884), and EURYALUS for R.M. Battalion (8 February 1884 to 27 April 1884) where he earned his undated Egypt medal and clasp, returning to ALEXANDRA until March 1886. He received promotion to Colour Sergeant on 1 January 1885, and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal on 11 April 1885. He was discharged on 27 July 1886 having served for 21 years.
