Albert Sneyd was born on 18 January 1881 in the Borough of Hackney, London, and was a doll maker before joining the Royal Marines on 28 December 1898. He was discharged on 20 January 1911 on completion of his 12 year engagement, and enrolled in the R.F.R. at Chatham on 21 January 1911. He was mobilised in August 1914 to serve at the Chatham Headquarters until joining the SS CHANNEL QUEEN in April 1915. He ransferred to PRESIDENT III in November 1915 for service with defensively armed merchant ships and continued to serve in this capacity until demobilised on 26 March 1919.
