Augustine Ruxton was born in 1878 and entered the Royal Navy as a Cadet aboard the Training Ship BRITANNIA on 15 January 1892 aged 13 years. Promoted to Midshipman on 15 January 1894, he joined his first ship H.M.S. TRAFALGAR and served next aboard CALYPSO (December 1906) and received promotion to Sub Lieutenant on 15 December 1897. He was appointed to CHAMPION (January 1899) and ARETHUSA (November 1899) serving in the latter vessel in Chinese waters during the period June-December 1900. Promoted to Lieutenant on 30 June 1900 he served next aboard ARETHUSA, ROYAL SOVEREIGN, and CANOPUS. He resigned his Commission in June 1905, his name being placed on the ‘Emergency List of Officers’. He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on 30 June 1908 and called up for war service on 31 August 1914, appointed to H.M.S. ACTAEON ‘For Special Service’. He next joined CRESCENT (March 1916) in the rank of Acting Commander, confirmed in that rank with seniority on 27 October 1917, and reverted to the Retired List in 1919. He died circa 1927-28.
