The Rev. Ralph C. Brown, a Roman Catholic priest, who was born in February 1830, was appointed to the Army’s Chaplains’ Department in August 1862. A Chaplain 3rd Class at the time of his participation in the Ashantee War 1873-74, he eventually attained the equivalent rank of Colonel before being placed on the Retired List in 1894.
