Duncan M'Grigor was born in Callander, Perthshire, and served with the 73rd Foot 1789-1793 and in the Breadalbane Fencibles 1799-1802. He re-enlisted, at Edinburgh in 1811, into the 42nd Foot at the grand age of forty one. M'Grigor was severely wounded in action with the enemy at Quatre Bras on the 16 June 1815, in the left leg. He was discharged in July 1820.
