Rifleman Thomas Mansfield Smith enlisted into the Middlesex Regiment in December 1935, and transferred to the Rifle Brigade in March of the following year. He served in Palestine, June 1939 - January 1940; Egypt, to September 1943; North Africa, to January 1944.
