James Minter was born in Kensington, London, in 1842, and enlisted into the 56th Regiment at Colchester on 19 June 1860. He was promoted Corporal in June 1866, Sergeant in July 1867, and Colour-Sergeant in December 1870, receiving his L.S. & G.C. Medal with £5 Gratuity in 1879. Promoted to Sergeant-Major in February 1879, he served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was discharged on 12 January 1886. He received the Meritorious Service Medal with an Annuity of £10 on 8 February 1912, and died circa 1922. Sold with copy service and discharge papers.
