Four officers and 80 other ranks of the 1st and 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards, were present at Abu Klea in the Guards Camel Regiment.

James Russell was born in the town of Lawrence Kirk, Kincardine, sometime in 1859. He enlisted into the Scots Guards on 2nd September 1879, being discharged on 14 August 1891 on completion of his first period of limited service. Sold with confirmation and six pages of copied service papers.
