H.M.S. Fame was a Destroyer of 340 tons, built by Thorneycroft at Chiswick and launched in April 1896. A total of 58 officers and other ranks of the ship were entitled to the China Medal with single clasp ‘Taku Forts’. Sold with a photograph of the recipient.

On 17 June 1900, at the Taku Forts, four destroyers of the Chinese Navy were boarded and captured by Lieutenant & Commander R. J. B. Keyes of the Fame and Lieutenant & Commander C. MacKenzie of the Whiting, which was done by towing a boat astern with boarders under the command of Lieutenants J. A. Moreton and W. Tomkinson of the Whiting and Fame respectively, who boarded and captured two destroyers each.
