Cnut (1016-1035), Short cross type, Hunna, Malmesbury, HVNA ON MEaLM, 1.12 gms. Extremely fine and excessively rare, in outstanding condition for a coin of such great rarity, and probably the only example of moneyer and type of this extremely rare mint outside Scandinavia (£1,500-2,000)
This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Anglo-Saxon and Earlier Hammered Coins formed by the late Captain 'Peter' Arnot.

Only two other coins of this moneyer and type are recorded, both in Scandinavian national collections (SCBI Copenhagen 3135, different dies, and Hildebrand 2894). Provenance unrecorded, purchased 1977.
