France, Reconnaissance Franco-Italienne, 1935, a large cast bronze artist’s cliché for the reverse of the medal by L. Muller, naked warrior burying his sword in a tree trunk, 167mm (Cat. Hommage à Louis Muller, 1958, –); together with a bronze example of the struck medal by Raynaud and Muller, 33mm, with ribbon and bar [2]. Both extremely fine, the first extremely rare (£150-180)

First only illustrated. Louis Muller (1902-57), a student of Dropsy and Patey, lived at the Villa Medicis, Rome, from 1933-6, where this piece was undoubtedly conceived.
