Rosario Mifsud was born in Valetta, Malta. A Servant by occupation, he attested for service with the King’s Own Malta Regiment of Militia on 19 September 1899. He attained the rank of Sergeant in June 1909 and was discharged in consequence of the disbandment of the regiment on 31 December 1921. He was awarded the Coronation Medal 1911. During the Great War, he was mobilized on 5 August 1914 and served in Cyprus, 14 January-7 August 1915. For his wartime services he was awarded the British War and Victory Medals. He was granted the Militia L.S. & G.C. by Army Order 47 of February 1918. One of 50 such medals from the reign of King George V awarded to the 1st Battalion King’s Own Malta Regiment of Militia.
