Before the war, William Smith was a Private in the North Staffordshire Regiment. During the war he was captured and was a prisoner-of-war in Stalag 20B at Marienburg, Germany. He was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. in 1946. After the war he joined the Army Cadet Force as an Adult Instructor in the County of London A.C.F., serving at the Drill Hall, Braganza Street, Kennington. In about 1964 he was awarded the Cadet Forces Medal as a Sergeant-Major Instructor. Sold with several photographs of the recipient in uniform, together with some copied research.
