Having served in the ranks of the Royal Australian Artillery, Gough, as a Warrant Officer Class I, was granted a commission as a Lieutenant in 1941. With the A.I.F., he served as Quartermaster of the 2/14th Australian Field Regiment, November 1940-June 1943, being promoted to Captain in July 1941. He then served on the Staff in various appointments, being appointed a Temporary Major, November 1943-November 1944. At the end of the war, Gough transferred to the R.A.A.O.C. and was again Temporary Major, August 1945-June 1947. He was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. (Australia), notified in the Australia Government Gazette of 5 February 1948 where he was listed as a Temporary Major in the Australian Instructional Corps. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, notified in the Australia Government Gazette of 23 August 1956 where he was listed as a ‘Captain (Temporary Major) (Warrant Officer Class I) (now Major)’, in the ‘Australian Instructional Corps (now Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps)’. Based on his rank, Gough would appear to have made a very late claim for his Efficiency Medal (not found in the gazette). Sold with copied research and two copied photographs.
