Gustav Landauer (1870-1919), German Jewish anarchist and revolutionary, was involved in establishing the short-lived Bayerische Räterepublik (Bavarian Soviet Republic) and serving as its Commissioner of Enlightenment and Public Instruction in April 1919. Landauer is also known for his study and translation of William Shakespeare's works into German
