Private John Hetherington served with the 90th Regiment during the 2nd Kaffir War of 1846-47 and was wounded in the right hand at the battle of Boemplats on 29 August 1848. He served with the Cape Mounted Riflemen during the 3rd Kaffir War of 1850-53.
