Charles Lowrie was appointed Ensign in the 69th Foot on 21 December 1802, and promoted to Lieutenant on 20 July 1804. He served with the 69th at the capture of Java in 1811 and was wounded in the attack on Fort Cornelis on 26 August (Despatch of Sir S. Auchmuty, London Gazette 17 December 1811, refers).

The History of the Welch Regiment records: ‘Attention now had to be directed to Redoubt No.2 [Cornelis], lying on the right. Just at the right moment Colonel Gibbs arrived with the Grenadiers of the 14th, 59th, and 69th. He was ordered to carry the redoubt, which was done under a severe fire. Hardly had the redoubt been taken when the powder magazine blew up igniting shells and rockets. This explosion devastated both friend and foe. Of the four officers in the Grenadier Company of the 69th, 2 were killed and 2 wounded... The wounded officers were Lieutenant C. Lowrie, who was shot through the body, and Lieutenant D. M’Pherson, both of the Grenadier Company.’

Lowrie was promoted to Captain on 16 June 1812. He was advanced to Major, by purchase, on 28 August 1826, and exchanged to the Unattached List on half-pay on 20 November 1828. Major Lowrie died at Lincoln on 18 November 1855. Sold with copied research.
