Ferrand Gray Waddington was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in March 1900. Having then transferred in the rank of Lieutenant to the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he served in the Remount Department in Cape Colony during the Boer War (Medal & clasp). On the disbandment of his battalion in April 1908, Waddington transferred to the 3rd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers on the Special Reserve; likewise, in the rank of Captain, to the 4th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters in October 1910, in which he was serving as an Instructor of Musketry on the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914. In May 1915, he removed to the 9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry as a Major but, having been advanced to the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, he held an appointment in the Labour Corps from September 1917 and served as a Commandant of a P.O.W. camp from September 1918. Waddington relinquished his commission on account of ill-health in May 1919; sold with copied research.
