George Alexander was born in the Parish of Fitcham, Dorking, Surrey, and attested for the 24th Foot at Westminster on 18 September 1844, aged 17 years 10 months. He served in the East Indies for 14 years 10 months, and was present at the battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat (Medal with 2 clasps), and served during the Indian Mutiny (Medal without clasp). He was discharged as a Colour-Sergeant on 19 December 1865. Awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with an annuity of £10 on 13 January 1897, and died on 20 February 1899. Sold with copied discharge papers.
