Francis Davies was appointed Sub. Lieutenant in the 12th Glamorganshire Rifle Volunteer Corps in April 1875. Advanced to Lieutenant in March 1876 and to Captain in February 1879, he later joined the 2nd Glamorganshire Rifle Volunteer Corps and resigned his commission in December 1883.
