‘Mick’ Darcy (or D’Arcy), who was awarded the British War and Victory Medals for his services in the Great War, was promoted to Sergeant in the 1st Battalion in June 1929. Having then been advanced to Company Sergeant-Major in July 1935, he transferred to the 2nd Battalion and represented the regiment at the Coronation in 1937. He finally took his discharge in Northern Ireland in July 1939, when it was said he wasted no time in heading south ‘to blow the froth from his favourite nectar in Dublin’; sold with copied research and portrait photograph.
