William Mazzie (or Mazzei) arrived in France on 27 August 1914, as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment. He was subsequently discharged in June 1916 and awarded the Silver War Badge.
A relative, Louis Mazzie - possibly his brother - died on active service with the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers, in October 1914; his son, William John Mazzie, was killed in action in North-West Europe in July 1944, while serving as a Corporal in the Welsh Regiment; sold with a poignant collection of original documentation in respect of the latter.
