Henry Milward North was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment in September 1914 and first went to France in January 1915. He was seriously wounded and taken prisoner near Gouzeaucourt in the Cambrai operations of November 1917 but was rescued in a subsequent British advance: his wounds had been dressed by the Germans who treated him with ‘every consideration’.
North, who had been advanced to Lieutenant in in September 1916, relinquished his commission on account of ‘ill-health caused by wounds’ (London Gazette 9 September 1920, refers); sold with copied research.
