Alfred Gregory, who was born at St. Paul’s, Bristol in January 1870, served for many years in the ranks of the Welsh Regiment prior to being appointed Colour-Sergeant of the 5th Battalion (Territorial Force). Having then been discharged to a pension in April 1914, he was commissioned Q.M. & Hon. Lieutenant in his old regiment in April 1915.
Drafted to the 1/5th Battalion, he served in Egypt and Palestine 1916-18 and was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 14 June 1918, refers). Briefly attached to the 5/6th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, in August-September 1918, he was embarked for the U.K. in March 1919 and resigned his commission as a Q.M. & Captain in February 1921; sold with an old newspaper cutting and copied research.
