23rd (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) Painted Photograph 1858 by A. Claudet Subsequently Painted Over by Edmund Parris the Welsh R.A. the picture shows a newly commissioned ensign in the 23rd wearing his 1856 pattern tunic and holding his 1855 pattern shako (17 x 14 cms) contained within a plaster and wood gilt frame (damaged) and in turn contained in a rosewood and velvet lined outer frame. The reverse is inscribed ‘Photograph’d by A. Claudet, Painted by E.F. Parris 6/58’, good overall condition for age £300-500
This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Militaria to Welsh Regiments formed by the Late Llewellyn Lord.
