Jeremiah Connell was born in Kanturk, Cork, Ireland, and attested for the 14th Foot at the town of his birth, in December 1846. He advanced to Colour Sergeant, 19 July 1855. He was discharged ‘Medically Unfit’ due to loss of sight in both eyes, 6 January 1857, having served for 10 years and 8 days with the Colours.
