Daniel Thimbleby was born in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, and attested for the 1st Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, at Sheffield, in March 1867. He was posted for service with the 2nd Battalion, in November 1887, and discharged 3 April 1888, having served 21 years and 26 days with the Colours.
