LANCASHIRE, Liverpool, Liverpool Race Course, an oval silver Proprietor’s ticket by T. Halliday for W.B. Promoli, from the same dies as previous, rev. engraved 153, 52 x 41mm, 30.36g (W 1542; D & W 322/13). Light scuffing, otherwise good very fine and toned, very rare £400-500

Provenance: The 13th Earl of Eglinton, and by descent to the 18th Earl, from whom the ticket was acquired in November 1994.

Archibald William Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton and 1st Earl of Winton, KT, PC (1812-61), b. Palermo, Sicily; educ. Eton; appointed a Tory whip in the House of Lords, 1846; Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland 1852-3 and 1858-9; d St Andrews October 1861. Lord Eglinton’s main object of interest was the turf.
