LANCASHIRE, Warrington, Warrington [Racecourse], a uniface cast silver pass, 1761, unsigned, horse standing left, held by a jockey, back unstamped, 35mm, 21.56g (W 1567; D & W 324/28). Pierced for suspension, very fine, exceptionally rare in silver and probably the piece recorded by D & W £800-1,000

Warrington racecourse was situated on Latchford Heath, south of the town. Events were staged there in the first half of the 18th century and some sources indicated that racing had ceased by 1760, but these well-known 1761 passes infer that racing continued after that time
