M.C. London Gazette 22 July 1916:
‘T/2nd/Lieut. 10th N. Staffs Regt., attached 1st S. Staff. Regt. For conspicuous gallantry when his Captain had become a casualty he took command, and led his men forward. It was greatly due to his fine leading that an enemy position was captured.’
Sold with a copied Western Front Association article by David Sergold, A Tactical Victory on the Somme, The 1st South Staffordshire Regiment on 1 July 1916, which includes mention of 2nd Lieutenant Tunnicliffe’s part in the capture of the village of Mametz and award of the Military Cross.
