M.C. London Gazette 26 March 1918; citation 24 August 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his company with great skill and courage under heavy fire in an attack and captured and consolidated his objectives.’
Bar to M.C. London Gazette 7 November 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and leadership in action. He led his company with the utmost coolness and frequently had to reorganise it, owing to casualties, under heavy fire. After the final advance, being the senior officer present, he reorganised the whole battalion during a heavy bombardment, and consolidated the position.’

J. J. McCombie was born in 1894 and lived at 1 Stanley Street, West Glasgow. He joined Glasgow O.T.C. in October 1914. Sold with copied m.i.c. and extracts from London Gazettes and regimental histories.
