D.C.M. London Gazette 26 July 1917:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the enemy gained a footing in our trench he at once organised a bombing party and drove them out, inflicting losses. His prompt action undoubtedly relieved the situation.’

Ellis Slack enlisted on 23 September 1914 and went with the 13th Manchesters to France on 7 September 1915 and thence to Salonika in November 1915. Returning to France in July 1918, he was discharged on 13 August 1918. Sold with copied gazette entries, m.i.c. and D.C.M. card.
