42nd Royal Highland (The Black Watch) Regiment, Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate, c. 1850-81 (described Parkyn p. 211), rectangular gilt matted back plate with raised burnished rim, mounted with cut silver star of the Order of the Thistle, with silver ‘42’ within a gilt circle inscribed with the motto of the Order, wreath of thistle surround and crown above, a gilt Sphinx below, two hooks and two studs to the reverse with impressed maker’s mark ‘A.G.W.’, slight wear to gilt mount, otherwise excellent condition £300-400
