Gerald Warren was a Cadet prior to his commission as Second Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, in December 1942. He served in Burma during the Second War and is reputed to have taken the surrender of Brigadier Takemura of the Japanese Army. Warren served as Temporary Captain in the Port Commandants Office, Saigon, 19 September - 4 April 1946, and was awarded the Efficiency Medal whilst serving as a Temporary Major in February 1949. He was dismissed from service by sentence of a General Court Martial in January 1950.
