Edward Herbert White was killed in action between 26-27 April 1941, while serving in 16th Battery, 2nd H.A.A. Regiment, Royal Artillery and being evacuated by the destroyer H.M.S. Diamond from Greece - in company with her consort the Wryneck, she was sunk by enemy dive bombers with heavy loss of life, just 50 survivors being picked up from both ships out of 950 sailors and soldiers. The son of Herbert and Alice White of Harlow, Essex, he was 21 years of age and is commemorated on the Athens Memorial.
