Ernest G Moffatt and his wife Letitia (neé Hickman), were employed by the Royal Household, first at Queen Alexandra’s Marlborough House, Ernest as a wine waiter and Letitia as a housemaid, and later at Sandringham.
During the First World war, Ernest served with the Royal Garrison Artillery on the Western Front from 1 March 1915, before subsequently transferring to the Labour Corps. His Regimental number was 46301.
Their eldest son John, was born in Badby, Northampton in 1922. Later the family moved to Mortlake, London, where John went on to become a highly successful stage actor.
