Provenance: Biddulph Collection, Glendining’s, November 1951.

Alexander Gaiter served in the 9th Foot, 2 January 1796 to 24 September 1799, and in the 61st foot, 25 November 1800 to 27 September 1814. He was discharged to a Kilmainham Pension on 6 December 1814, aged 47, ‘wounded in both thighs and in the groin’, a wheelwright by trade. The Salamanca muster roll for June to September 1812 shows him as ‘wounded’ in the first muster and as ‘sick Salamanca’ in the second and third musters, 61 days in General Hospital.
