Jamaica, KINGSTON, Thomas Lundie & Co., advertising or fare token, legend THOMAS LUNDAY & Co. WATER STREET 1844 around IRONMONGERS, rev. EARL OF ELGIN JAMAICA around a three masted paddle steamer, brass, plain edge, 23mm (Lyall 195; cf. Prid. 144; cf. Roehrs 1217). Extremely fine and extremely rare, perhaps the only recorded specimen £300-£400

Provenance: Bt. Spink & Son, 1975

Thomas Lundie & Co., were located at 3 Water and Peter Lanes operating at ironmongers and manufacturers from 1837. The vessel Earl of Elgin, built by Lairds in Birkenhead and launched in June 1844 arrived in Jamaica on 19 August 1844 and employed in carrying passengers and freight around the island. The vessel was sold to the Haitian government in 1847
