West India Sugar Co., Frome, Westmoreland was the venue for a major strike over pay in May 1938 during the building of a giant sugar factory were 1000 workers walked out. The police were called and four workers were killed in the disorder that followed. The jjpay dispute reverberated around the island, leading to multiple demonstrations in Kingston over the following weeks
