Provincial Bank of Ireland Ltd, specimen/proof £5, 6 December 1965, serial number DN 000000, McClay signature, this date is the last date for the large format £1, the first recorded date for the reduced size £1 is 1968, annotation in top margin ‘Date to be 5th January 1972’, also two preliminary printers proof booklets for the £5 from the 1968-72 issue, the first includes four proofs: first obverse and reverse design as issued, second obverse brown underprint, reverse as issued, third uniface obverse die proof, fourth uniface reverse die proof, second booklet includes: uniface, obverse litho underprint pattern, with single colour bar, the specimen heavily soiled, about fine, both booklets have a paper cover with printers annotations, each stapled at top otherwise uncirculated (3 pieces)
