Herbert Edward Long served with the 1/4th Battalion in France from 29 March 1915, and was killed in action at Pozieres (Sickle Trench) on 23 July 1916. He was the son of Henry Long, of Witney, Oxon, and is commemorated by name on the Thiepval Memorial.
